Basic principles

Main areas of work
• Advice
– Counseling services to help cope with everyday problems,
difficulties at school or family
– Support in dealing with conflicts and crises
• (Social) group work and training courses
– To strengthen social skills, communication and conflict resolution skills
– Topic-specific projects, also in the preventive field
– COURAGE – Practicing how to interact with each other
– Bullying intervention
• Parental involvement
– Resource-oriented advice and support for school difficulties, educational problems and family conflicts
– Initiating support services and coordinating networking
Evening appointments and home visits available if needed
• Networking
– Facilitating and/or accompanying contacts with extracurricular counselling centers, institutions or authorities
– Initiating further support services
– Cooperation with, among others, the general social service of the youth welfare office, educational counselling centers, addiction counselling centers, daycare centers, youth work facilities, the judiciary and the police.

Section 13 Paragraph 1 of the German Social Code Book VIII (SGB VIII) applies:
“Young people who are particularly dependent on support to compensate for social disadvantages or to overcome individual impairments should be offered socio-educational assistance within the framework of youth welfare, which promotes their school and vocational training, integration into the world of work and their social integration.”
Youth Social Work (JaS) is understood as a particularly intensive form of cooperation between youth services and schools.
It aims to help compensate for social disadvantages and overcome individual impairments. Its goal is to promote the development of children and young people into responsible and socially competent individuals. Through the deployment of qualified social workers, youth social work provides easily accessible support services within the school.
